Security Deposit

What is the deposit for?

We collect a deposit when you rent equipment to encourage you to return it on time and in the same condition it was in when you received it.

How do you come up with the amount?

We determine the deposit based on the replacement value of the equipment rented. This includes paddles, life vests, etc. How much is the deposit?

The deposit varies depending on the equipment rented. The list below shows the current deposit required for each equipment package we offer. This is added automatically to the rental fee at checkout.

  • Tomcat Tandem kayak – $300
  • Tomcat Solo kayak – $300
  • Airhead Montana Solo kayak – $200
  • Airhead Montana Tandem kayak – $200
  • Solstice raft – $250
  • River Rambler float tube – $20

How do I get it back?

We don’t want to keep your deposit. We want to you to have it back. All you have to do is return the equipment rented in the same condition as when you rented it. If something gets lost or damaged to the point that we can no longer rent it we will retain a portion of the deposit as follows:

  • Tomcat Tandem kayak – $300
  • Tomcat Solo kayak – $300
  • Airhead Montana Solo kayak – $200
  • Airhead Montana Tandem kayak – $200
  • Solstice raft – $250
  • River Rambler float tube – $20
  • Paddle – $50
  • Life vest – $30
  • Pump – $20
  • Patch kit – $10
  • Boston valves – $10
  • Thigh Straps – $60

When will I get it back?

When you reserve the equipment, we capture payment for the rental fee and the security deposit. When the equipment is returned in good condition, we issue a refund for the deposit and you receive the funds when the bank releases them to you. If a portion of the deposit is retained due to lost or damaged equipment, we will issue a refund for the remainder of the funds. Once we issue a refund we have no control over the time the bank takes to release the funds back to you. For this reason, we recommend using a credit card for your reservation instead of a debit card.

What’s to stop you from keeping my deposit?

Part of running a good business is being honest with our customers. We want to help you enjoy Oregon’s beautiful rivers and lakes while protecting ourselves from loss. We’ve rented our equipment hundreds of times with a great track record of honesty and integrity. We want to keep that reputation intact by making every effort to give you back all of your deposit whenever possible.
